Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms: Are you covered?

By in News

It is compulsory for all properties to have a carbon monoxide alarm installed in every room containing a solid fuel burning appliance (i.e. log burner, AGA, open fire) and to have a smoke detector on every floor.

It is also worth noting that all new tenancies must have their detectors tested by either the Landlord or Agent and shown to the tenant to be in working order on the first day of the tenancy. It is advisable to get the tenant to sign a receipt confirming the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working or ensure it is included in the inventory at check-in.

For landlords of fully managed properties the team at HBPM will arrange the installation of CO and smoke alarms where necessary. If you are a let-only landlord and would like us to assist you in ensuring that your property is compliant, please do contact our lettings team.
